Westmeath impress with victory over Laois

Westmeath footballers have been drawn againt Kildare in the Leinster Senior Football Championship semi-final.

The draw was made this afternoon in the wake of Westmeath's impressive 3-20 to 1-10 defeat of Laois in the quarter final in Bord Na Mona O'Connor Park in Tullamore earlier today.

Kildare overcame Offaly in another quarter final by 1-15 to 0-13.

The winners of Dublin v Meath await the victors of the Westmeath/Kildare clash in the Leinster final.

Last Sunday was the first victory for Jack Cooney’s troops in 2021. In this regard, he reflected: “We had really good performances in the league, but with nothing to show for them. The lads were very determined to get the win today.”

The Westmeath goals came from David Lynch, Denis Corroon and Castledaly's Lorcan Dolan, who finished top scorer with 1-3 (including one free).
