Hope springs eternal for Milltownpass Tidy Towns

Following a callout for volunteers, a team of 13 locals assembled in the church car park in Milltownpass on a drizzly Halloween afternoon for what was to become the very first Tidy Towns event in the village.

The objective was to plant a variety of spring bulbs, which would fill the village with food for pollinators emerging from winter hibernation, as well as colour and beauty for locals emerging from potential winter lockdowns!

As the saying goes “many hands make light work”, and within two hours the team had succeeded in planting more than 1,300 bulbs in key locations all around the village.

John Delamere, Tidy Towns secretary, said he was overwhelmed by the turnout in challenging weather conditions and that the enthusiasm was a joy to behold and bodes very well for the future success of Tidy Towns activity in Milltownpass.

The event provided a fun opportunity for members of the community to work together towards improving the village, while also getting to know neighbours and forming new friendships.

The Milltownpass Tidy Towns team ook set to continue going from strength to strength, and already have more ideas brewing for the months and years ahead.

Milltownpass Tidy Towns would like to thank all the volunteers who came out on the day to support this event, and a special thank-you to Grennans bar for sponsorship of some tulip bulbs as well as providing the welcome refreshments on the day.
