€20k of cocaine seized in Mullingar search

Cocaine with an estimated street value of around €20,000 was seized during a search of a residence in the Mullingar area.

A male in his 20s was detained and charged in connection with the seizure last Thursday and a file is being prepared for the DPP. The search was part of a two day plan of action conducted by members of the drugs unit in Mullingar and Athlone as part of Operation Thor.

In Athlone, a male in his 20s was arrested following the recovery of €10,000 of cocaine (pending analysis) during the search of a property.

The searches were carried out as part of Operation Thor, which is designed to tackle the anticipated increase in the number of burglaries and associated criminal activity that usually occur in winter months by undertaking targeted enforcement and preventative activity. This initiative has successfully reduced the rate of winter burglaries, leading to a significant decline in property related crime since its introduction in 2015.
