Niall Horan's golf - 'He can hold his own!'

Niall Horan had been due to appear, by video link from the US, on the Late Late Show last night, but he was ill and unable to.

He still featured in the show during Ryan Tubridy’s interview with LPGA winning golfer, Leona Maguire.

This is their exchange:

Leona Maguire: “Yeah, he’s obsessed with golf, he loves the game, and it’s fantastic to have him a part of my team as well.

Ryan Tubridy: “I notice you don’t compliment him on his game. I’d like to ask you a little bit about that...

“He obviously plays a lot, and you’ve seen him play - have you played with him?”

Leona: “I have, yeah. I mean, he’s a good golfer, he’s good for what he needs to be. I mean he brings his clubs everywhere...

Ryan: “He’s good for what he needs to be?...”

Leona: “He’s golf mad, he plays all the time."

Ryan: “That’s just a comment, that’s not an opinion, so...”

Leona: “It’s maybe been a couple of years now since I played with him, so he’s definitely been working on his game.”

Ryan: “Have you thought about politics, Leona? (laughter from the audience). "But he’s a fun player, I take it?”

Leona:”He’s about a 7 or 8 handicap so he’s pretty handy alright. He can hold his own.”

Ryan: “He can obviously, and good fun along the way with it.”

Leona: “Yes, absolutely, we played in the pro-am up in Galgorm a couple of years ago, so maybe this summer at that event again at the World Invitational, we might have to see if he’s going to play again.”

Ryan: “I think you should.”

Niall Horan has offered his thanks to the British Airways staff who looked after him when he took ill.

On Twitter he wrote: "Thank you to the staff on that @British_Airways flight. I was extremely ill and they took such good care of me. ❤️"
