Algar nominated for two IFTAs
Niamh Algar has been nominated for two IFTAs.
The Mullingar native has been nominated in the Lead Actress – Film category for her role as Enid in the critically acclaimed horror film, Censor, and in the Lead Actress – TV Drama category for her role as undercover police woman Lizzie James in the Channel 4 true crime drama, Deceit.
In the Lead Actress-TV Drama category this year the other nominees are Angeline Ball (Hidden Assets), Clare Dunne (Kin), Dervla Kirwin (Smother) and Sinéad Keenan (Three Families).
In the Lead Actress – Film category, she is once again up against Angeline Ball (Deadly Cuts), as well Catherine Clinch (An Cailín Ciúin), Gemma-Leah Devereux (The Bright Side) and Hazel Doupe (You Are Not My Mother).
In a Tweet post yesterday, Algar thanked IFTA for her nominations.
"This is such an honour to be nominated with these amazing women. Cannot wait to be all together at a physical event celebrating the incredible talent and hard work of the Irish film and television industry!"
This is the third successive year that Algar has been nominated for an IFTA. In 2020, she created her own piece of history by becoming the first actor to be nominated in four categories, two of which she won: the Best Actress In a Leading Role- TV Drama for her performance as Dinah in the Channel 4 series, The Virtues, and the Best Actress In A Supporting Role - Film for her performance in Calm With Horses, for which she was also nominated for a BAFTA.
Last year, she was nominated in the Lead Actress- TV Drama category for her performance in the Sky TV science- fiction TV drama, Raised by Wolves.
It's been an eventful few days for Algar. Last week it was announced that she has been cast in one of the lead roles in a new Disney+ drama.
She will feature alongside a host of other well known names in the upcoming dark comedy, Culprits.
The eight part series, which has already started shooting, follows the aftermath of a heist, when the crew have gone their separate ways, but are being targeted by a killer one-by-one.
