Minister discusses world affairs with Castlepollard students

Castlepollard Community College hosted Damien English, TD, Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail, this morning to speak to senior cycle students and staff during assembly.

After the assembly there was an extended Q&A session, which provided the students with an insight into the world of government and politics from a minister’s point of view.

The school team were also pleased to welcome Cllr Frank McDermott, Donie Cassidy, chairman of the Board of Management; Brian Higgins, acting director of schools; and Liz Lavery, acting chief executive.

The minister and his team were impressed by the students’ conduct throughout, ability to interact and discuss a number of current important topics in depth, such as the upkeep of roads and transport links, fuel prices, housing plans and developments in the country and local area, the conflict in Ukraine and more, during the hour-long assembly.

As the session ended, the visiting party complimented the school on the latest developments and were pleased to hear about the ongoing work related to the school buildings.

The minister and chief executive commended the staff and students at Castlepollard Community college for all their achievements during the last two years despite the Covid restrictions.
