Tony and Anne O'Callaghan of Tally Ho Stud inducted into ITBA Hall of Fame
Husband and wife team Tony and Anne O’Callaghan of Tally Ho Stud been inducted into the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s Hall of Fame, an honour reserved for the giants of the equine industry in this country.
The O’Callaghans join the likes of Aidan and Annemaire O’Brien, JP McManus, John Magnier and the Aga Khan in the ITBA’s Hall of Fame in recognition of their contribution to their sport over the past four decades.
Located just outside Mullingar and a short distance from Belvedere House, Tally Ho is firmly established as one of the leading studs in the world, having bred and pinkhooked a host of Group 1 winners.
The low key couple run the stud alongside their sons Henry and Roger. In a video produced by the ITBA, Henry and Roger, as well as other leading figures in the Irish equine world, paid tribute to the couple.
Henry said that the secret to the stud’s success is very much down to how Anne and Tony work together.
“Tally Ho wouldn’t be the same if one of them wasn’t there. It’s very much the two of them.” he said.
Congratulating the O’Callaghans, Minister of State Peter Burke says that Tally Ho’s reputation extends across the globe and that Anne and Tony richly deserve their place in the ITBA’s Hall of Fame.
“It is an incredible enterprise that was started back in the 1970s. They have provided great employment and put Mullingar on the map internationally for breeding. They have sent winners all over the world.
“Their stallion roster has gone from strength to strength over the last number years. They are now a world leader and they are located right here in Mullingar on the shores of Lough Ennel.”
The O’Callaghans weren’t the only local winners at the ITBA’s awards, which were held in The Heritage in County Laois on Sunday night.
Brothers Laurence and Michael Gleeson from Aughamore Stud in Streamstown won the Next Generation Award.
