Registration for Mullingar Half Marathon closes this Friday, March 4, at 12 noon as the event returns to its traditional date, St Patrick’s Day.
The AON Mullingar Half Marathon team have been busy organising the race, an Athletics Ireland approved event.
Murty Hanly, race director, said the volunteer team are glad the event is going ahead live this year.
“We are delighted to see the AON Mullingar Half Marathon return to its original date of St Patrick’s Day and we want to wish all our runners the best of luck for the race,” Murty said.
AON has sponsored the event, and all proceeds raised will go to TEAM (Temporary Emergency Accommodation Midlands).
“Thanks again to our title sponsor AON and all our sponsors for 2022, our volunteers and committee members who help make this event what it is and allow us to raise much needed funds for our charity partner TEAM,” Murty said.
To celebrate the Fleadh Cheoil 2022 taking place in Mullingar this year, the committee have decided to support it by incorporating it in the half marathon medal design.
Along with that, after the marathon, a 5km race has been organised to raise funds for the fleadh committee.
The volunteer committee expressed gratitude towards the official car partner Colton Motors and to ORS Hydration Tablets, the official hydration partner for 2022.
An Garda Síochána, Fencescape Ltd and Colas Roadbridge JV will also be on hand to keep everyone safe on the road throughout the race.
The half marathon is scheduled to start at 10am on Thursday, March 17, from Pearse Street in the centre of the town; the finish is in Mullingar Town Park.
At the end of the race, each participant will be greeted with race packs including race T-shirts, medals, water bottles and goodies.
