Daffodil Day returns to our streets on Friday

Daffodil Day is back on our streets this Friday, March 25, after a two-year break due to Covid restrictions.

The members of the Mullingar committee have plans for Daffodil Day 2022 well advanced and with the continued support from their wonderful volunteers, local traders and businesses, they are hoping that this year will be an extra special occasion.

In Ireland the number of cancer diagnosis increases year on year. As a result, the demand on the Irish Cancer Society’s services grows accordingly.

In a statement to the Westmeath Examiner, the Mullingar committee say that the importance of Daffodil Day can’t be overstated.

“Daffodil Day is the primary fundraiser for the society, so we appeal once again to the good people of Mullingar and its environs for their support in whatever way possible on the day.

“Volunteers will be based at several locations around the town and will be selling daffodil pins, silks, badges and other items. All funds raised go to supporting cancer patients and their loved ones by providing free support through nursing care, advocacy, counselling and driver services, as well as funding ongoing cancer research programmes.

“In addition to our traditional street based options, we will have a number of cashless alternatives available this year. These include tap machines at selected stations where a fixed donation can be made using your credit card or phone.

“Also each of our location points will have QR codes which can be scanned to make a donation to the Irish Cancer Society or you can go to our fundraising web page (daffodildaycollection.cancer.ie/fundraising/dd22-Mullingar) to contribute at any time during the month of March.

“Sincere thanks to everyone for your generosity and support over the years, with special thanks to our wonderful volunteers who are out on the streets of our town year after year, irrespective of the weather.

“To all, míle, míle buíochas for your support in the fight against cancer. We look forward to meeting you all on a hopefully, sunny, Friday, March 25.”
