Troy congratulates LWETB on Columb Barracks development

Robert Troy, TD, has passed on his compliments and congratulations to the LWETB, following the news that a new apprentice training centre is to be established at Columb Barracks.

Solas has confirmed its intention to create a centre of excellence for electric vehicle management at the Columb Barracks site, and Simon Harris, TD, Minister of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, told Minister Troy that “colleagues in Solas will soon meet with the CEO of Longford Westmeath ETB Liz Lavery to confirm these plans and will work with them to make them a reality”.

Deputy Troy, who is Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment with special responsibility for Trade Promotion, said: “This is a very positive development for Mullingar.

“Since the LDA have been involved, we have witnessed both ambition and collaboration between the local community and other key stakeholders throughout the process resulting in tangible progress every step of the way.

“I commend LWETB who saw the potential and opportunity this historic site presented from the beginning, and whose vision has been the driving force in resurrecting Columb Barracks to better serve Mullingar and the surrounding area.

“Minister Harris had clearly recognised this ambition and it was great that my colleague Minister Burke had him visit.

“I think it’s fair to say we all share the ambition for this site and will continue to work across government to ensure this site reaches its full potential.”

Minister Harris also told Minister Troy: “This is a very welcome development and I want to thank you and colleagues from across Mullingar for working with me, my Department and Solas to make this a reality.

“I appreciate the vital importance this project will make to the people of Mullingar. It will also go a significant way to helping us ensure we meet our climate objectives.”
