Longevity due to ‘Lord’s blessings’
Last week was a special occasion for Joan Leavy: she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Joan was born in Gainstown on April 1, 1922, during the War of Independence. As a child, she attended Gainstown NS, moving on then to Loreto Convent for her secondary level education before heading to Ardagh College to study domestic science.
In 1945, Joan married Dan Leavy of Castletown Geoghegan, and together the couple raised six daughters and two sons. A home-maker beyond compare, Joan has lived in her home for 68 years.
A wonderful friend and neighbour, she also volunteered with Meals on Wheels as a driver for many years.
Among her varied hobbies and interests are her piano playing, art classes, gardening, golfing and poker afternoons!
Joan has been blessed with good health and has had a full and very active life.
Her longevity she attributes to her good genes (Curran); keeping active and positive with lots of laughter and an occasional glass of wine or G&T and the Good Lord’s continued blessings.
