Mullingar Tidy Towns Annual 1916 Easter Commemoration
Mullingar Tidy Towns held its Annual 1916 Easter Rising Commemoration at the Mullingar 1916 Centenary Memorial yesterday, Sunday 17 April.
Mullingar Tidy Towns chairperson, Cllr Bill Collentine, laid a laurel wreath in remembrance of those who served Ireland during the revolutionary period.
Cllr Collentine said he was honoured to have laid the wreath on such a historic occasion and stated that it is important that the annual Easter ceremony of remembrance continues at this memorial into the years and decades ahead.
The short ceremony concluded with local historian Jason McKevitt raising the national flag of Ireland from half-mast to full mast.
The Mullingar 1916 Centenary Memorial was unveiled on Easter Monday 2017 by the 1916 Centenary Memorial Sub-committee of Mullingar Tidy Towns.
