Charity Gun Push on Friday
This Friday, May 6, Gunners in 2 Brigade Artillery Regiment (2 BAR), Costume Barracks, Athlone, will push a 105 Heavy Artillery Gun (weight 1.5 ton) from Athlone to Ballymahon, Longford, Mullingar and back, for the charities, Ukrainian Refugee Appeal and Defence Forces Benevolent Fund.
The route in Mullingar is past the hospital and Loreto College, to Buckley’s SuperValu and down the main streets; stop at the Joe Dolan statue; exit the town on Patrick St.
Route and times; Ballymahon, 9.30am, from bridge to church; Longford, 10.30am, Market Square to Connolly Barracks; Mullingar, 1.30pm, Barrack Street to Newbury Hotel, stop at Market Square; Athlone, 3pm, stop at Golden Island Shopping Centre and Bank of Ireland; return to barracks 4.30pm.
An organiser said: “You are invited to come out and support them – your presence will demonstrate support and encourage the gunners regardless of weather, time or terrain, to keep the gun moving. If you can’t make it out, and want to donate, the details will be available.”
