Cronin return for for their most ambitious Mullingar gig to date
The Mullingar based indie band Cronin are playing an intimate acoustic gig with two of Ireland's most talented musicians in the Greville Arms next Friday night, May 20.
The critically acclaimed outfit will be joined for one night only in Mullingar by music legend Steve Wickham (The Waterboys) on violin and Anna Houston (No Crows) on cello.
The night will be an acoustic reworking delving into both the Cronin and The Aftermath back catalogue. It will be recorded and filmed for a future release.
Steve Wickham needs no introduction in music circles with his acclaimed work with The Waterboys plying on such timeless hits as Fishermans Blues and The Whole of the Moon and was a founding member of In Tua Nua and played violin on the classic U2 song "Sunday Bloody Sunday", as well as recordings by Elvis Costello, the Hothouse Flowers, Sinéad O'Connor, and World Party.
Wickham plays both rock and roll and traditional Irish music, and has developed a rock music technique for violin he calls the "fuzz fiddle".
Anna Houston has composed and recorded the soundtrack for various shows, and has performed with various acts including Mike Scott and Steve Wickham (The Waterboys), Dervish, Sligo Baroque Ensemble to name a few.
Anna also teaches the cello and banjo at Sligo Academy of Music and holds music workshops for kids.
Anna has been playing cello and mandolin in Sligo band No Crows since 2005.
This show is supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and Westmeath County Council.
Tickets are available from The Greville Arms, 3345 Records Mullingar and online at Evenbrite. Doors open at 8pm.
