Mullingar Pride’s first fundraising event was a huge success amassing a sold-out crowd at Dalys, Mullingar. The event was in April, and Mullingar Pride held a Drag Brunch, which was the first fundraising event for the group.

It was hosted by Dublin drag star, Donna Fella, and aimed to raise funds for the new group.

Mullingar Pride chairperson, Daniel Boyne said the group were delighted with the turnout. "This was Mullingar Pride’s first fundraiser and for it to be a sell-out is such a glorious feeling. The committee and I were apprehensive moving forward with events on this scale, but we have full confidence now and it’s given us such a boost," Daniel said.

"To have a Drag Queen perform in Mullingar feels like a triumph and a new chapter for our little entertainment capital of Ireland."

The committee have been working toward their week-long launch event in July, and Daniel said after the success of the drag brunch, they are looking forward to the summer.

"We can’t wait to bring a heap of Queens down for Werk! fest in Belvedere on July 16 as a part of our pride festivities," Daniel said.

Daniel previously spoke to the Westmeath Examiner about the July festival: "It’s a week-long event, kicking off on July 12 with a queer exhibition which will explore history of local people from the LGBT community. That will be open for two weeks for the public to see," Daniel said.

Other events include a theatre evening with monologues written by Mullingar LGBT people, a parade in town and a concert evening at Belvedere House and Gardens.
