€11.18m to upgrade health facilities in Westmeath and Longford

Funding of €11,180,000 has been allocated for healthcare facilities in Westmeath and Longford as part of the 2022 Capital Plan for health.

The local allocations, confirmed this morning, are – Westmeath:

• Extension to Radiology Department at Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar to accommodate an MRI provided by others. €5.2m.

• refurbishment to provide accommodation for mental health day centre and rehabilitation psychiatry team at Green Road, Mullingar. €100,000

• Relocate ambulance station in Mullingar: project replaces existing fragmented service and integrate fleet and operatives in a central location, €1.13m

• New project at Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar: Respiratory Assessment Unit (RAU), OPD space to accommodate RAU (adult and paediatric). On Pandemic Plan - 08/10/2020. €1.5

• new ambulance base, Athlone, €50,000

• St Vincent’s Hospital, Athlone, new nine-bed mental health residential unit, €100,000

Longford

Ashford House, Longford, new nine-bed mental health residential unit, €100,000

St Joseph’s Care Centre, Longford, HIQA Compliance: refurbishment of 68 beds, phased delivery, single contract, €3m.

Minister of State and Fianna Fáil TD for Longford and Westmeath, Robert Troy, said: “I’m delighted the government has provided €11.18m to further upgrade public health care facilities across Westmeath and Longford. Capital investment has a key role to play in enhancing service provision and ensuring the delivery of high quality and safe health and social care.

“The publication of this plan by my party colleague and Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly is a continued sign of the investment taking place in our health service.”

The health capital allocation in 2022 for the construction and equipping of health facilities is €1.02bn, an increase of 4% on 2021. This investment enables the HSE to plan and fund the projects that were included in previous plans and to progress additional evaluated and prioritised projects in 2022.
