Westmeath duo named on Tailteann Cup Team of the Week
Two Westmeath players have been named on GAA.ie's Tailteann Cup Team of the Week following last Sunday's win over Laois in O'Moore Park.
Sam McCartan has been named in midfield following one of his best performances in a maroon shirt. The young St Loman's man's eye-catching solo goal in the 44th minute was one of key moments in the game and helped ensure that Jack Cooney's side made it through to the quarter finals of the competition.
Luke Loughlin was also named on the team of the week after another impressive performance. The Downs forward is one of Wesmeath's most important attackers and finished Sunday's match with four points.
Westmeath come up against Carlow this weekend for a place in the semi-finals of the secondary football competition. The two sides meet on Sunday in Netwatch Cullen Park (throw-in 2pm).
While Westmeath will be confident that they can progress to the semi-final, which will be played in Croke Park, Carlow will be hoping to follow up last weekend's surprise win against Tipperary with a victory over Westmeath.
