Mullingar Community College graduation and awards ceremony
More than 50 students received special plaques and six were recipients of ‘prestigious awards’ at a gala graduation and awards ceremony for students from Mullingar Community College Mullingar Park Hotel this month.
The top award, the principal’s award for overall best student of the year, went to Julia Poplawska and was presented by the principal, Seamus Mohan.
Julia also received the award for Leaving Cert student of the year presented by the year head and assistant principal, Sheila Corcoran. Teachers from the school presented the other awards.
The award for best attendance was presented to Victoria Gagol by Alex Foran. Bobby Archibald received the sports student of the year award from Jason McKernan. The Leaving Cert Applied student of the year award went to Eva McGlynn and was presented by Elaine O’Reilly.
A special award is presented each year in memory of the late Geraldine Kelly, Moyvore, who was a special needs assistant at the school.
The award is presented to the student who best represents the characteristics for which Geraldine is remembered – kindness, respect, good manners and an all-round positive attitude. This year’s recipient was Hugh Rock-Maxwell, who received his award from Juanita Coyne.
Two students, Aine Gorman and Stella Gori, entertained the gathering with their magnificent medley of music and song.
Master of ceremonies was Adam Corcoran, the Irish teacher in the school who introduced cupla focail as Gaeilge to the proceedings.
Mr Mohan welcomed all present and congratulated all students on their achievements.
