Heatwave: Temperatures rising to 29 degrees by weekend
Weather update from Met Éireann
High pressure will dominate the weather picture and each day will be dry, warm and sunny with light winds. Sea breezes will form in the afternoons for a couple of hours. Nights will be dry and clear.
That's the latest weather outlook from Met Éireann, which has also issued a status yellow high temperature warning for Leinster and Munster from 12 noon on Thursday until 6am on Monday.
The weather today will be dry, warm and sunny. Highest temperatures 24 to 26 degrees, higher in some spots in Munster and Leinster. Winds light variable or calm with a sea breeze developing in the afternoon. A moderate southwest wind will keep it cooler on the coast of Connacht and the west coast of Ulster.
Tonight will be dry and clear. Lowest temperatures 8 to 13 degrees with no wind.
Tomorrow, Thursday, dry, warm and sunny and hot in Munster and Leinster. Sea breezes again in the afternoon and still cooler along the coasts of Connacht and west Ulster. Highest temperatures 24 to 28 degrees.
A warm night Thursday night with temperatures not falling below 10 to 15 degrees generally, staying above 16 or 17 degrees in places. Continuing dry and clear with some coastal fog forming along Connacht and west Ulster coasts. Light variable breezes.
Friday and Saturday will be hot and sunny with a low chance of isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 25 to 28 or 29 degrees in light variable breezes, hottest inland. Staying warm overnight with temperatures not falling below the mid to high teens.
Another hot day on Sunday with sunshine to start, there's an increased likelihood of showers, and they could be heavy. Temperatures 25 to 29 degrees with light easterly breezes.
Current indications suggest that temperatures will fall back closer to average for the time of year from next Monday with low pressure taking over and bringing showers.
In relation to the weather advisory for Leinster and Munster, coming into effect tomorrow, the nationalweather forecaster has said:
"Very warm or hot on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with maximum temperatures generally of 27 to 29 degrees. Warm at night with temperatures generally staying above 15 degrees. Daytime temperatures may not be as high in coastal areas due to sea breezes."
