Rathowen's Festival Weekend kicks off this Friday
Preparations are in full swing for the Rathowen Community Development Festival Weekend starting this Friday August 19 until Sunday August 21.
The weekend kicks off with a table quiz in Connaughton's Pub tomorrow night from 8pm.
It will be a great night of fun and craic with lots of spot prizes up for grabs. Expert quiz master, Padraig Flynn has the questions set and ready to go.
From 9pm on Saturday the team will host a summer BBQ in Ferrick’s Hotel accompanied by live music from the fabulous Caroline Moore.
Tickets cost €10 and are available at any of the public premises or can be purchased from any committee member.
The highlight of the weekend’s festivities will be on Sunday August 21 when the summer field day kicks off from 1pm.
The event is supported by Legan Vintage Club who will show off their display of vintage tractors on the day.
There will be stiff competition as teams including Mostrim, Ardagh, Bunbrosna and Multyfarnham are geared up to play a challenge football and hurling game on the day in hopes of winning the Covenant Cup.
It is expected that the Westmeath footballers will make an appearance to present the winners with their medals and cups.
For those who enjoy a bit of line dancing and country western music, Colm Bourke will be playing at the Community Centre between 2-5pm.
If you are an animal lovers, you can meet Larry the Llama, Nellie the donkey and her little foal and you can take part in the dog show event.
There will also be craft stalls open on Sunday so come along and enjoy the fun and games.
