Eamon Ryan calls for two investigations into Robert Troy's property declarations
Green Party leader Eamon Ryan has said the Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO) should investigate the issues surrounding Minister of State Robert Troy's adherence to rules surrounding declarations of interests.
He also said SIPO should provide clarity for politicians regarding the requirements for rental contracts to be declared in the Register of Members Interests.
He further suggested it would be possible for the like of the Oireachtas Committee on Parliamentary Privileges and Oversight to carry out a full investigation
Speaking on RTE Radio 1's News at One today, Minister Ryan said the Standards in Public Office Commission was the appropriate mechanism under ethics legislation to carry out an investigation into the issue.
His comments follow on Robert Troy's own interview on the issue on News at One on Wednesday, in which he reiterated his apology for his errors and said he was happy to make a statement and take questions on the issues when the Dail returns.
He said he was "embarrassed" that he "got it wrong" and wanted to take "full responsibility" for his errors.
He also said he was happy to meet SIPO and the Residential Tenancies Board.
