Mullingar Camera Club returning after summer break
The recent Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann held in Mullingar provided many people with wonderful opportunities to practice their photography. Indeed many excellent photos were posted on social media and printed in the local and national papers. If you have been inspired by any of these photos and you want to become a better photographer, learn more, meet others who share your passion, and make new friends, well, why not come along and join Mullingar Camera Club.
Mullingar Camera Club is about enjoying photography and helping one another improve our photographic skills. Whatever your standard, there is always something to learn. We try to promote creativity through photography, to share and critique the photographs of our members, to educate and improve technical skills, and to spread our passion for photography. Our first meeting back after the summer break is scheduled for Wednesday 07 September. We meet twice a month on Wednesdays and our meetings are held in Mullingar Arts Centre, commencing at 7.30pm and finishing at 9pm. Our yearly subscription is €60.
So what happens at a typical meeting? The simple answer is all kinds of things related to photography. Some meetings may feature a guest speaker, a competition, image sharing, workshop, photo shoot, or some other photo activity. Our club participates in several competitions. Sometimes we focus on nature or landscape, while other times it may be in portraiture, street photography, or whatever. The main thing however is that the members decide the tone and direction of the club.
Members can also avail of our studio equipment, and especially our digital darkroom, where they will have use of computers, scanners (for prints, negatives and slides) and a top of the range A3 printer.
In Mullingar Camera Club you will find some people who know more than you and some who may not know as much. That is a good thing. You can learn much from the more experienced and accomplished photographers in the club and, if you have technical expertise in any area you can teach the less experienced what you know.
While photography can be a solitary pursuit and you can get great enjoyment from it, you will learn and progress more quickly with the support of others. Membership of Mullingar Camera Club may challenge you and force you out of your comfort zone but the end result will be an enhancing your range of skills.
Every year the club hosts an exhibition of the members' photos taken during the last season. This year the exhibition is on in the Atrium in the County Buildings from August 30 to September 9. If you are interested in attending we would love to meet you.
