Student essay writers have chance to win great prizes
Senior cycle students are being invited to enter a new essay competition to mark the Decade of Centenaries Programme in Westmeath.
Westmeath County Council have issued the invite and the task is to write an essay about Westmeath during the War of Independence (1919-1921) and/or the Civil War (1922-1923).
Entrants can write about any aspect of that period in the history of Westmeath, concentrating on a particular person, group, organisation, place or event.
Essays may discuss political and military topics, cultural, social or sporting topics.
First prize, €200 book token
Second prize, €150 book token
Third prize, €100 book token
The first place essay will (subject to meeting the requisite standard) be published in the Westmeath Examiner and the Westmeath Independent and on Westmeath County Council’s Decade of Centenaries blog.
The deadline for entries is 5pm on Thursday November 3.
