Dempsey takes FF title despite tough weekend at Donington

An eventful weekend in final three races of the Avon Tyres BRSCC Formula Ford 1600 at Donington Park ended with enough points for Jordan Dempsey to take the title.

The Mullingar man has been more used to winning this season, so finishing in the bottom half of the top 10 showed what he was up against, but he and his team are, of course, delighted with the outcome.

Jordan told the Westmeath Examiner that he “went off on lap one and then got collected, severely damaging my car”.

He managed to get the Kevin Mills Racing Formula Ford back to the pits, where the team repaired it enough to get him to the finish in the points.

He later found out he went off because of a broken suspension bolt.

“In race two, I started 19th and had to finish eighth to wrap up the championship – and I finished eighth.

“Then the top six were reversed for race three so I started eighth. It was ok for the first few laps, and I made up a few places, but then the brake fluid started boiling and I was losing brakes, so I calmed down and just brought the car home.

“It wasn’t a good weekend but it’s great to win the championship.”

On Facebook, Jordan thanked all those who have helped him this year.

“Huge thank you to Kevin and all the guys at Kevin Mills Racing for getting me here, believing and trusting me to do the job and get the championship win. Thanks to all the mechanics, Ali, Chris, Ben, Callum and Dad. Thanks to Jayde for all his help this year on data and setup. Thanks to Tom Mills Racing for all his help at the races. Thanks to Dad and Motorsport Car Preparations - MCP - for the best engines all year (five national championships in the last eight years).

Thanks to Emily for supporting me throughout the year and thanks to the little brother Jake for his words of wisdom!

“And most importantly thank you to all of my sponsors and supporters. Without all of your help I wouldn’t be able to do what I do and I am extremely grateful to still be able to drive racing cars at this level!

“Big thanks also to Michael Eastwell Racing, Michael Eastwell Photography, for the great pictures and for being a great teammate this weekend!”

Jordan’s sponsors are: Novitas, VSDigital, TBRM, Rescu u Ltd, Kender, Sleator Kia, Canore Hygiene Ltd, Investchem, Alastair Coull, Coull Services Groundworks, lakelandkayaks.ie, NEA International.

Asked what his next move will be now he has won the Formula Ford title, Jordan told the Examiner: “Whatever comes up – no budget for anything yet, but I want to move up to slicks and wings cars or into GT racing.”
