Minister to open Our Vision Our Voice exhibition at Atrium today
Minister for Arts and Culture Catherine Martin is due in Mullingar this evening to open the Our Vision Our Voice 2022 art exhibition at the Atrium.
The project has been running in the midlands for six years, and this year "seeks to explore through photography, painting, ceramics, writing and video, the recovery journey as a lived experience by mental health service users , creating an artistic response to agreed topics on mental health and recovery".
A multigenerational project, it is the result of a collaboration between artist Rosaleen Heavin, Mullingar Mental Health Association and the occupational therapy services in the Westmeath Longford area Mental Health Service area.
It is funded by a Creative Ireland grant, through the Westmeath Arts Office.
Through the art, participants seek to explore recovery in mental health. Over an eight-week period groups came together in Mullingar, Athlone and Longford to explore recovery, self-curating their work into an exhibition to inform the viewers about the challenges and the positives participants experience.
This exhibition will run in The Atrium, Mullingar until October 10.
The official opening is today ,Tuesday 11 October, at 5.45pm, with Minister for Arts and Culture Catherine Martin.
All are welcome to attend the opening or to view the works over the two weeks.
