95pc callback rate for victims of domestic violence

Gardaí in the Mullingar area had a 95pc callback rate for victims of domestic violence last month, according to Superintendent David Nolan. That rate is around 92pc for the entire year, he added,

Supt Nolan told a Joint Policing Committee (JPC) meeting on Monday of last week that the national target set by the Policing Authority for domestic violence callbacks is 85pc.

“We have a process that we do a victim assessment and we engage with victims, particularly victims of assault and domestic violence, on a weekly basis,” he said,

“We have a callback policy where the victim is contacted by gardaí within seven days of reporting the incident. And we have a pro-arrest and pro-charge policy where there are breaches of domestic violence orders in Westmeath.”
