Pipers celebrate International Uileann Piping Day next Saturday in the Annebrook
Pipers from across Westmeath and the rest of the midlands are meeting up in Annebrook House Hotel this Saturday, November 5, for International Uileann Piping Day.
Believed to have originated in the 1700s, uileann pipes are undergoing something of a revival over the past decade as increasing numbers of people becoming interested in playing them.
On November 5 each year, piping communities all over the world come together to celebrate the instrument and its rich history.
One of the organisers of the event in the Annebrook, Lorenzo Hynes, says that everyone is welcome to attend whether they may be interested in learning to play the pipes or just want to hear some top quality traditional music being played.
The local piping community have been very busy this year. While the Fleadh Cheoil was undoubtedly the highlight of 2022, local pipers meet up regularly to play at venues and sites across the region.
Saturday's event in Annebrook House Hotel starts at 3pm and ends at 6pm.
