Dollard wants eir told to ‘get a move on’

The telecommunications firm eir is to be asked what its long-term plans for its building at Blackhall in Mullingar are.

“Looking at it in the context of our local area action, I really think now we need to get eir out of that particular property,” Cllr Mick Dollard told the meeting as he inquired if there have been any communications with the firm on the subject of its intentions for the building.

“It’s taking up too much space altogether, and it’s of no benefit whatsoever to the town,” he continued, asking that the company be requested to “get a move on”.

The official written response to Cllr Dollard’s question stated that during early stakeholder engagement in 2020, associated with the Blackhall Masterplan, the Regeneration Project Team was in communication with eir in this regard.

“Eir were supportive of the regeneration project but indicated a desire to retain infrastructure in this location,” the response to Cllr Dollard stated, adding that further engagement will be required on the matter.

Derelict

At the same meeting, Cllr Dollard asked if a particular house at Springfield Cottages is included on the Derelict Sites Register.

He was disappointed to learn that it is not, although the executive stated that an inspection of the house could be sought to determine if it should be.

Cllr Dollard said the house is in “a very old part of Mullingar”, and that if it had been in any other area of Mullingar, it would have been added to the register.
