Mullingar influence in McCaul's 'Open Studio' exhibition
Padraig McCaul will hold an ‘Open Studio Exhibition’ over two days, Saturday December 3 and Sunday December 4 in the Mullingar Park Hotel, between 11am and 6pm each day.
This will be Padraig’s second exhibition in Mullingar, following a very successful open studio exhibition at the same venue last December. It also marks the last show of a very busy year which saw many highlights, including a solo exhibition in Powerscourt House, Enniskerry; Art Source 2022 at the RDS, Dublin; and a first showing in Amsterdam at the Affordable Art Fair, with the Doorway Gallery.
McCaul's paintings continue to be inspired by the untamed landscapes and coastline of Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way – but the Mullingar influence is starting to come through too with some new paintings and prints featured in his upcoming exhibition including ‘The Concert Band’.
Achill Island, which is located off coast of Mayo and where Padraig lived for ten years, has had a profound influence on his paintings, which are inspired by the natural beauty and colour of the surrounding landscape. Using familiar themes of West of Ireland cottages and old farmhouses, and his signature figurative work, each painting is filled with an abundance of colour and life. Featuring new original oil paintings and limited edition prints, outward looking, bright, open landscapes are contrasted with more personal, inward looking figurative pieces.
Padraig is a full time artist who moved in 2021 with his family from Achill Island to Mullingar. He has exhibited internationally in London, Amsterdam, New York and Australia and holds regular exhibitions in Ireland with galleries in Dublin and along the west coast.
