Giant bauble Christmas tree new street art for Mullingar
There's a new addition to the artwork on Mullingar's streetscape taking shape on Martin's Lane!
On the side of Daly's Mullingar, artist Beata Pietrzak, is creating a Christmas message from the town, a giant bauble Christmas tree, with Santa and his reindeer in the background taking to the skies over Mullingar.
It's also a feature wall where you can take a selfie and upload it to social media, telling Santa whether you've been naughty or nice!
This is yet another initiative by Mullingar Chamber to enhance the town and provide quirky instagrammable spaces for patrons attending its Winterfest 2022 experience.
The artist behind the mural, Beata Pietrzak, is a native of Poland originally but living in Mullingar for the last six years, and is responsible for the 'Fleadh wings' on Meeting House Lane, or 'Umbrella Lane' as it has since become known.
Talking to the Westmeath Examiner on Friday, Beata explains that she only began painting two years ago!
"It started as a hobby, I started to paint only two years ago but many years ago I went to art school where I trained in stained glass. I didn't get a chance to paint anything because of family and work, and worked in graphics in a newspaper for many years.
"Then I made the proposition to Mullingar Chamber about the wings for the Fleadh, it was my idea, and it went from there," she explains, as many shoppers and passers-by stop to admire her new work on 'Black Friday'.
Beata is herself a good advertisement for Mullingar, adding that she loves the town!
"I love Mullingar. It's not too big, not too small, it's just right."
