Kinnegad artist to open debut solo exhibition in The Atrium
‘Everything the Light Touches’ opens Thursday December 8
This debut solo exhibition by Kinnegad based artist, Maree Murphy, titled ‘Everything the Light Touches’ and focuses on the positive times and memories through a period of darkness which surrounded us during Covid times.
The exhibition will feature 30 unseen pieces of abstract work, created over the last two years using acrylics.
‘Everything the Light Touches’ will be officially opened in The Atrium at County Buildings on Mount Street, on Thursday December 8 at 6pm, by Miriam Mulrennan, County Arts Officer with Westmeath County Council.
Each piece of contemporary art highlights a memory full of "light", and tries to uplift the soul around the themes of beauty, courage and hope through the language of colour, space, repetition and form.
The idea began at the start of the Pandemic and came to fruition during the days of isolation and self-containment.
Maree wanted to recognise that "out of something broken;...can be something beautiful" and this is “illuminated by the absorbance of colour and the emission of light, reflection and symmetry” in her paintings.
Having received a Bachelors Degree in Art & Design from ATU Galway in 2015, Maree has exhibited in two group exhibitions and some of her work hangs in Galway Library. This is her first solo exhibition and she hopes that the viewer enjoys viewing her paintings; as much as she enjoyed creating them.
The show will be open to the public from Monday December 5 until Friday December 30, and members of the public are welcome to attend.
