Foster and Allen kick off Irish tour in Mullingar this Christmas
International recording artists Foster and Allen look forward to celebrating over 48 years in the music business with their 'We’ll Meet Again' Irish tour.
Kicking off a string of dates across the country in Mullingar, Mick and Tony play the Greville Arms Hotel, on Tuesday December 27, and will be performing all their hits including Bunch Of Thyme (it was 40 years ago this year that Foster and Allen appeared on Top Of The Pops with that hit), Old Flames, Maggie, After All These Years, We Owe It All To You, Mrs Brown’s Boys, as well as some of their new recordings from their new album 'We’ll Meet Again'.
Their new album was released in October and from the opening title track, We’ll Meet Again, to their rendition of popular classics such as Grace, The Cliffs Of Dooneen, Cotton Fields Back Home, Foster and Allen are well and truly back in stride.
Foster and Allen are getting a fantastic reaction to the original love song Kitty Kiernan from the new album.
Written by Mullingar songwriter and musician, Noel O'Farrell, the song is a story about tragic love of one of Ireland's most revered political leaders Michael Collins and his love Kitty Kiernan.
Shortly after getting engaged to be married, Collins and Kiernan had to be separated as his work took him across Ireland and back to Dublin. Throughout this time, Collins stayed in contact with Kitty by post, writing a letter every day.
He wrote of his love for her and he travelled to see her whenever possible and they were to be married in November 1922 before his untimely death at Béal na Bláth, Cork on August 22, 1922, 100 years ago this year.
Also featured on the album is well known song Grace written by the O’Meara brothers who were born in Mullingar.
Foster and Allen aren’t showing any signs of slowing down and their recording and touring commitments prove how popular they remain for their fans who like to hear them at home and see them in a live experience.
Locally, Mick and Tony will also play The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule, onThursday December 29; and The Shamrock Lodge in Athlone on January 15, as well as a whole host of dates right across the country.
