Wallace concerned about speeding in Streete
Speeding traffic is causing problems in Streete, Cllr Emily Wallace told officials at the November meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad as she asked that traffic calming measures be installed.
The written response to her request stated that in 2021 Clár funding was received for vehicle actuated signs in Streete. They were installed and are working correctly. “There are no plans or funding for additional traffic calming measures at this location,” the response concluded.
Cllr Wallace said speeding remains an issue. “The signs are welcome, but they don’t seem to be having the desired impact,” she said, asking if there is more that can be done. Director of services, David Jones, said that while the response provided stood, the council could look at flagging the issue with gardaí.
Multyfarnham
Cllr Wallace also asked that the district fill potholes at the speed signs on the road from The Covert in to Multyfarnham. The response from the executive was that work was done earlier this month.
Milltownpass
There is as yet no decision from the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad on a request by Cllr Wallace that a pedestrian crossing be installed in Milltownpass from Wright’s car park to the GAA pitch. “This matter will be referred to the Active Travel Team to determine whether funding is available from the National Transport Authority for a pedestrian crossing,” the response to Cllr Wallace said after she raised the issue at the district’s November meeting.
Auburn Terrace
At the same meeting, Cllr Aoife Davitt asked if surfacing work could be carried out at the rear of the houses at Auburn Terrace. “I just want to express how important it is. I have put it in for the last three years and it still has not been done: it is in really bad condition,” she stated. To this the response was that the work can be considered in the context of the 2023 estimates.
St Brigid’s Well
A request that a light be installed at St Brigid’s Well was also made by Cllr Davitt at the November meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad. The written response from the executive stated that the installation of a light at that location would not fall under the district’s remit, but a request could be made of the parish authorities. Cllr Davitt explained that her concern was for the safety of road users at that location, and the executive agreed to look again.
