National Slow Down Day: driver doing 132kmh at The Downs
A motorist was detected doing 132kmh in a 100kmh zone at The Downs this morning, gardaí have said in their first update from National Slow Down Day.
The campaign began at 7am today, Friday 23 December.
Gardaí said in a statement: “In the first 2 hours of the 24 hour National Slow Down Day, GoSafe checked the speed of 19,246 vehicles and detected 153 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.”
Examples of motorists putting themselves and others at risk include:
• 88kmh in a 50kmh zone on Coolock Lane, Dublin 17
• 135kmh in a 80kmh zone on the N4, Ballydowd, Lucan, Dublin
• 76kmh in a 50kmh zone on the N6, Baile An Phoill, Gaillimh
• 132kmh in a 100kmh zone on the N4, Greatdown, The Downs, Westmeath
• 75kmh in a 60kmh zone on the Clones Road, Monaghan
• 94kmh in a 80kmh zone on the N25, Castleredmond, Midleton, Cork
• 117kmh in a 100kmh zone on the N71, Ballynagrumoolia, Waterfall, Cork
• 116kmh in a 100kmh zone on the N25, Kildermody, Kilmeaden, Waterford
• 110kmh in a 100kmh zone on the N24, Woodrooff, Clonmel, Tipperary
• 131kmh in a 120kmh zone on the M7 Cherryville, Kildare
