Army platoon to mark end of training with military parade in Custume Barracks
The 35th ‘Pte Kelly’ 2-3 Star Platoon recently completed their training which will be celebrated with a military parade in Custume Barracks, Athlone on Thursday.
The Platoon successfully completed 16 weeks of Recruit training, the initial induction training for the Defence Forces, allowing them to move on to Three Star training.
The Three Star Course takes ten weeks and is comprised of tactical skills such as Life Fire Tactical Training (LFTT), Chemical. Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) training and patrolling. The course is designed to allow a soldier in the Defence Forces to progress in grade to Three Star Private and begin further training in a variety of weapon systems and vehicles and to serve with the Defence Forces both at home and overseas.
With soldiers from across the Ireland, the platoon have a wide range of experience and knowledge which, along with the skills and knowledge imparted by their instructional staff, has helped them throughout their training in Custume Barracks.
The soldiers of the 35th ‘Pte Kelly’ 2-3 Star Platoon will join Units across the Defence Forces and continue their professional development, honing their skills, allowing them to progress in their military careers.
The event will take place in Custume Barracks, Athlone at 12pm on Thursday, January 19.
