House gutted in 'suspicious' fire in Tyrrellspass

Gardaí have launched an investigation following what is being described as a “suspicious fire” at a house in Tyrrellspass last night.

A semi-detached house in the Castlegreen estate was gutted in the blaze which gardaí believe started at around 11.15pm. No one was hurt in the incident.

Firefighters from Kilbeggan Fire Station were first on the scene and were backed up by a crew from Mullingar. The crews worked into the early hours to save the adjoining house.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, a garda spokesperson appealed to anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the vicinity of Castlegreen between between 10pm and 12am last night to contact Mullingar Station.
