Mullingar man set to compete in Scottish Open karate event

Mullingar Kyokushinkai Karate Club will have representation at the forthcoming Scottish Open Tournament in Glasgow at the beginning of March.

Conor Fitzpatrick (22yrs) (photos attached) will fight in the Novice M/W category in a group that will prove to be a good test for him. Kyokushin Karate is renowned for its knockdown, full-contact form of combat and participants must prepare well and condition themselves for what could be more than one fight on the day (knock-out tournament).

Conor started Karate at six years old and has trained on and off for a good few years now. He has represented Ireland at Junior level in the past. The club would like to wish him well and we will report on his performance in future notes.

The club trains twice weekly at the local Mullingar Parish Centre (est. 2001) and new beginners male and female are always welcome. There is no pressure to compete and people take up karate for various reasons.
