Design sign-off for Saunders Bridge to be completed 'in next couple of months'
Westmeath County Council expect it will take nine months for the contractor to complete construction of the new pedestrian bridge at Saunder’s Bridge on the Ardmore Road, Mullingar the mayor, Cllr Hazel Smyth, was informed at the February meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.
The full written request to Cllr Smyth’s request for an update on the expected time of completion of the pedestrian bridge stated that Westmeath County Council expect to have design sign-off completed “in the next couple of months” following which a tendering process would take place to appoint a contractor.
“Once a contractor is appointed, works are expected to be completed in the region of nine months subject to funding,” the response concluded.
Bus shelters
At the same meeting, Cllr Smyth asked what locations within the district had been selected to receive new bus shelters.
To that, the response was that the council have provided the National Transport Authority (NTA) with a preliminary list of locations. “These are currently being considered by the NTA and we await a response in terms of approved locations,” the response concluded.
