Delvin St Patrick’s Day Festival committee continue fundraising efforts

There are just two weeks now to St Patrick’s Day and the Delvin St Patrick’s Day Festival Committee are pushing ahead with their preparations. The event, on Friday March 17 from 2pm to 6pm, is sponsored by Bracklyn Wind Farm (main sponsor), Westmeath County Council and Home Instead.

Bracklyn Wind Farm project manager, James Carville said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to support the local community for such an event, and its green ethos aligns perfectly with the national plan for climate action and with Bracklyn wind farm’s green ambitions.

“We are looking forward to continuing to build strong relationships in the area and supporting the community over the lifetime of the project.” (See www.bracklynwindfarm.ie.)

John Donlon of the organising committee said the road in Delvin will be pedestrianised for the St Patrick’s Day events, and that will allow “lots of space and a lively atmosphere for all attendees”.

“The street will be lined with showcases and stalls, including displays of vintage cars, model airplanes and electric vehicles. These showcases link with the festival’s green theme, which is promote the importance of the looking after the environment and sustainability.

“As well as that, there will be music and entertainment from a variety of acts including music by Coin Flip and the Samba Mamas, the Celtic Blondes and more.

“If all of that works up a hunger, there will be a variety of food and coffee vans as well as sweets and ice cream for purchase.”

John said the committee are grateful for all support received to date. They will continue their fundraising efforts in Harbour Place Shopping Centre on Saturday March 4, where they will be selling raffle tickets.

The three prizes are: first, €1000 towards your electricity; second a €500 voucher for Farnham Estate; and third a meal at the Twelve Points Restaurant in Killua Castle.

Tickets can also be purchased via the Facebook page, ‘Delvin St Patrick’s Day Festival’ and will be sold on the day of the festival. The winner will be announced in Gaffney’s Bar and Lounge on April 22.

The Delvin St Patrick’s Day Festival is a free event and it is sure to be a great day for all.

The committee are looking forward to offering a fun and festive day for the whole community and beyond.
