Paul Kelly to ‘Cut the Grass’ in Granard
Trucking and farming country music star Paul Kelly will entertain the crowds at the 2023 Longford Ploughing Championships on Sunday next, March 26, on Sean Donohoe’s farm beside Granard Mart.
Paul's performance will add to the usual ploughing competitions and family fun activities, as part of a celebration of outdoor music starting at noon.
Kelly and his band will entertain all afternoon, and a number of local artists will join him on stage, including Glor Tire star Brid Shaughnessy, Aisling Rynn, Peter Costello and the John Dungan Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann group.
Paul Kelly and Brid Shaughnessy will compete in a ploughing contest with ‘Farmer Phil’ and Operation Transformation leader Thomas Hynes.
‘Farmer Phil’ will display his new toy, a Kivi Pekka stone picker, and take on a nerve testing challenge.
Luke Casey, PRO of Longford Ploughing Association, said: “Everyone can join in the fun, as Thomas Hynes leads a walkabout at the biggest county ploughing event this spring. We have acres of space for ploughing, exhibitions, trade stalls, dog show, family entertainment, music and even jive lessons and a dancing competition.
“Join in, get a selfie with your favourite star and enjoy a taste of freedom, fresh spring air and excellent music in an outdoor setting beside Granard Mart on Sunday afternoon.”
Admission is €10 at the gate or you can purchase tickets online on Eventbrite. All online tickets automatically enter a draw for dinner for twp at The Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar. Entry at the gate is by cash or by prepaid ticket.
