Loss of 40 sliotars at game in TEG Cusack Park
County Committe meeting
There was welcome news with the confirmation at last week’s meeting that the ball stop nets in TEG Cusack Park are to be raised. The project will take place in mid-April.
It comes after County Committee Chairman, Frank Mescall confirmed that 40 sliotars were lost at the Westmeath versus Limerick Division 1A tie on March 12. A 12-pack of O'Neills championship sliotars cost €100.
“We finally got the go-ahead for it and that will begin our upgrading of TEG Cusack Park. So that’s a bit of good news,” he remarked.
The nets are to be moved forward onto the pitch and raised higher at the Dunnes Stores end of the ground. The news will be welcomed before the start of the busy championship season as clubs have been complaining in recent years about the costly loss of sliotars and footballs at headquarters.
“It’s badly needed. The Referees Coordinator informed me that, at the Limerick game, they lost 40 sliotars. So, it’s (the raising of the ball stoppers) very badly needed,” said the chairman.
The project is costly, but vital in order to curb the ongoing loss of playing equipment. The chairman also expressed the hope that players, when shooting at goal, would be more considerate.
“I’m sure no matter how high up we put them, they’ll probably aim to go over it,” he quipped.
