Keena on the mark again for Cheltenham Town
Aidan Keena found the net again for Cheltenham Town last night as they almost pulled off a famous victory against Sky Bet League One table toppers Sheffield Wednesday.
Mullingar native Keena opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, before team mate Alfie May extended the home side's lead seven minutes later.
Cheltenham looked on course for what would have been a shock victory in many people's eyes before goals from Aden Flint (76) and Lee Gregory (87) ensured that Sheffield Wednesday returned to Yorkshire with a share of spoils.
Keena, who was recently named Cheltenham's player of the month for February in a fans vote, was once again one of his side's standout performers.
He went close to opening the scoring in the first half only to be denied by David Stockdale, the Sheffield Wednesday keeper. A short time after scoring, the former Mullingar Athletic man was denied once again by a good save from Stockdale.
Since Keena's arrival from Sligo Rovers in late January, Cheltenham have moved away from the relegation zone and now lie four places and nine points above fourth from bottom Accrington Stanley.
Speaking after Wednesday's match, Keena said that while Cheltenham are moving in the right direction, they aren't taking anything for granted in the fight for survival.
"It's now five unbeaten, so we have hit form at the right time of the season," said Keena.
"None of us in the changing room are saying the job is done and we are safe, because there's still a lot of points to play for. It's a big point for us, as much as we would've liked the three."
Next up for Keena and Cheltenham is a home league tie against Burton.
