Lorraine to shave lovely locks for LARCC
In what has been described as a "hair raising" experience, Lorraine Murphy from Multyfarnham will be shaving her head for LARCC on Saturday April 1 - no joke!
There will be music and a raffle taking place in Murtagh's Bar, Multyfarnham, with the main event getting underway at 10pm.
“I’m doing it to support my husband David, who is receiving cancer treatment at the moment, as well as a lot of people in our area going through the same," Lorraine told the Westmeath Examiner ahead of the big shave.
“I want to support LARCC because they’re a brilliant charity, and they’re on our own doorstep, it’s a fantastic service and it’s brilliant to have it," continued Lorraine, who many will know from working in Whelehans Pharmacy in Mullingar before she her recent retirement.
“I just felt I had to do something, and I wanted to do something a little bit different that might grab people’s attention.
“I decided I wanted to do it, my hair grows like lightening anyway, and at my age I don’t care. It’s my choice and some people don’t have the choice,” says Lorraine, who describes her locks as a ‘massive head of thick hair’.
“My friend, Brigid Maxwell, was originally a hairdresser, who now works in Mary Street Pharmacy, and she’s going to do the cutting for me. She said she’ll actually have to cut it first before she shaves it because it’s so thick!" adds Lorraine, who says she's received huge support from her local community so far.
“I’ve received great support. There will be a raffle on the night, and a neighbour and friend who’s an artist, Tricia Waldron donated a picture and I’m going to auction that."
There will be music on the night, provided by local musicians, so make sure to go along on Saturday, join in the fun, and support Lorraine in her fundraising efforts for LARCC.
