Delay in processing HSE pension increases due to 'resource constraint' - Davitt

Fianna Fáil Senator Aidan Davitt has expressed his concern regarding the delay in the processing of pension increases for retired HSE workers.

The HSE has recently informed Senator Davitt that there has been a resource constraint within the pension function, resulting in delays and a backlog in the processing of pension increases for the past few years.

The HSE informed Senator Davitt that, the high turnover of staff and a vacancy gap as high as 30 per cent at times over the last number of years have contributed to this issue. The HSE is committed to resolving this problem and has stated that all pension increases, including arrears, will be processed by the end of May 2023. This will include all previous increases, up to and including the latest one effective from October 1 2022.

“I acknowledge the efforts of the HSE to resolve this issue and call on the government to support the HSE in its efforts to ensure that all retired HSE workers receive their due pension entitlements. It must be recognised that the delay has caused considerable inconvenience to retired HSE workers, who have provided invaluable service to the country, and I hope that the HSE will be able to resolve the issue without further delay,” added Senator Davitt.
