Westmeath GAA championship draws take place

The Westmeath GAA Championship draws took place at the County Committee meeting in The Mullingar Park Hotel last Wednesday night.

Defending senior hurling champions and Westmeath Examiner Cup holders, Castletown Geoghegan will face Fr Dalton's in the first round, while Flanagan Cup holders, The Downs meet St Loman's, Mullingar in round one of the senior football championship.

The draws were overseen by Keith Quinn, Secretary of the Competitions Control Committee and Westmeath GAA's Head of Operations, Patrick Doherty.

Willie Murphy, chairman of the Hurling Committee drew the football pairings, while Michael Mannion, chairman of the Football Committee, conducted the hurling draws.

The championships will not begin until the weekend of July 9 at the earliest depending on the progress of the Westmeath senior footballers and hurlers.

The draws for the first round games are, as follows:

Shay Murtagh Precast Senior Football Championship

Section A: St Loman's, Mullingar vs The Downs; Killucan vs Tyrrellspass; Caulry vs Coralstown/Kinnegad.
