Dessie selects Westmeath team for Louth clash

The Westmeath team for this Sunday's Leinster SFC quarter-final against Louth in Navan has been named.

In what will be Dessie Dolan's first championship match in charge, John Heslin has been selected at full-forward despite the St Loman's star being an injury doubt.

It's an experienced Westmeath line-up with no debutants included in the starting XV.

However, there are some promising young players among the subs, including Caulry's Senan Baker, Shandonagh's Daniel Scahill and Garrycastle's Eoin Mulvihill.

Although Westmeath won the last championship meeting between the sides in 2015, Louth emerged as winners in last year's league game. Mickey Harte's men went on to secure promotion in 2022 and performed impressively in this year's Division 2 league campaign.

Sunday's game at Páirc Tailteann, Navan is set for a throw-in time of 2pm.

The winners will advance to a Leinster semi-final against either Offaly or Meath, with the latter two teams meeting in Tullamore this Sunday.
