Reduced parking at MRH Mullingar for 13 months
There will be a reduction in car parking spaces at Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar for the next 13 months.
The temporary reduction in parking spaces, which will affect both patients and staff, is due to the recently commenced construction work on the new Outpatient Department (OPD).
According to hospital manager Kay Slevin, when the new OPD is operational it will be a major asset to the hospital.
“The OPD building is a crucial and exciting development for the hospital and for the people of Westmeath and Longford. The building will have a long-lasting positive impact on healthcare provision in this region. However, there will be short term pain for long term gain and that will manifest itself with reduced car parking spaces. Spaces have already been taken away, as a result patients and staff have found it difficult to get spots at busy times.”
Management in the hospital are encouraging people to use public transport if travelling for an appointment. If driving is necessary, motorists are advised to give plenty of time and allow for delays in getting parking at the hospital.
Management is also looking at alternatives for the next 13 months. This includes using other car parks and working with the local Town Link to see what more can be done to allow people travel to the hospital.
Personnel from the hospital will be in the car park assisting people trying to park during very busy times.
"Regional Hospital Mullingar would like to apologise to patients and staff who will be affected by this disruption and thank them for their patience," hospital management say.
