Castlepollard Community College awards night
The students of Castlepollard Community College were honoured for their endeavours and achievements at the annual prizegiving on Wednesday week last. There were awards for subjects they studied, special awards for attendance, school spirit and school ethos, and former principal Mary Coyle’s Misneach Award, was presented to James Sheehan, sixth year.
James McGrath, deputy principal, and Finbar Jordan, assistant principal, were the MCs for the evening, and Fiona Keating, Westmeath camogie captain, gave the main address; there were also remarks and tributes to the students and staff from school principal Wayne Walsh, and by Donie Cassidy, chairperson of the board of management.
Castlepollard Community College has enjoyed a strong year and students have won junior and senior football Leinster titles, a junior camogie Leinster title, the inaugural ETB first year cup for soccer, and took second in a west Leinster soccer league.
Ms Keating presented their medals to the camogie players.
The main awards were: Senior Sports Star of the Year (Male), Dorian McDonald; Senior Sports Star of the Year (Female), Emma Gilchrist; Junior Sports Star of the Year (Male), Ben Delaney; Junior Sports Star of the Year (Female), Alisha Harte Bulloch. Student of the Year, Dorian McDonald.
