Hussey feels 'let down and betrayed' by RTÉ pay scandal
Midlands correspondent Sinéad Hussey says that she feels “let down and betrayed” by the scandal at RTÉ over undeclared payments of almost €350,000 to Ryan Tubridy.
Speaking to the Irish Independent yesterday at the NUJ organised protest at RTÉ's base in Donnybrook that was attended by around 200 staff members, Ms Hussey criticised the national broadcaster's management.
“I really feel so let down and betrayed by the way everything has come out in the last few days,” said Ms Hussey.
“This drip-feed effect (of information) is having a devastating impact on the staff here and, I know, on the Irish public.”
The Mullingar-based Longford native was one of the RTÉ journalists that featured in their Truth Matters advertising campaign last year.
“I feel a little let down by that because I think trust matters and I believe in honesty – but, obviously, some people do not,” she said.
Looking ahead to this afternoon's Oireachtas meetings, Ms Hussey said that she expected answers.
“I want to know who signed off on this, who knew about this and who in their right mind thought it was OK to give someone extra money when they were already earning €440,000 a year.
"The Irish public deserve to know those answers, as well as the staff."
