Launch of Mullingar Agricultural Show 2023, Annebrook House Hotel
A large number of pieces come together on for an event such as Mullingar Agricultural Show and chief among them are the sponsors, committee and volunteers. The first of those were a priority at the launch of the 2023 show in the Annebrook House Hotel on Thursday week last, June 15.
The main sponsors are Westmeath County Council, Carnaross Mart, Liffey Meats and Kepak, and Chris Dolan, committee chairperson, thanked them, along with the many others, at the launch event.
Mullingar Show has a history of some 180 years of supporting agriculture and industry in Westmeath and the midlands, and that continues this year. The classes reflect the traditional agricultural strengths of Westmeath in pedigree and commercial cattle and sheep showing, and horse and pony showing are traditionally strong at Mullingar too – the show-jumping entry continues an old tradition of excellence.
This year Mullingar hosts nine all-Ireland classes for pedigree registered Valais Blacknose sheep at Ireland’s biggest ever show of Valais Blacknose. There are classes for poultry and a dog show as well, and horticulture and cookery are catered for in the indoor section, along with arts, crafts and photography.
Mullingar Show has a large trade stand area, indoor and outdoor, and stands reflecting all aspects of country and town life and living.
As always at Mullingar, there is entertainment for all, this year including Declan Nerney (3-5pm), and a fashion show.
The 2023 Mullingar Agricultural Show, run by the Westmeath Show Society Limited, a not-for-profit company and registered charity, takes place on their showgrounds at Culleen, Mullingar on Sunday July 9.
